Robotic-Arm Assisted Partial and Total Knee Replacement
Northwest Medical Center – Bentonville now offers robotic-arm assisted partial knee and total knee replacement procedures.
Using a virtual 3D model, the system allows surgeons to personalize each patient's surgical plan pre-operatively, so there is a clear plan for how the surgeon will position the implant before entering the operating room.
During surgery, the surgeon can validate that plan and make any necessary adjustments, while the robotic-arm allows the surgeon to execute that plan with a high level of accuracy and predictability.
Partial Knee Procedure
The partial knee application is a treatment option designed to relieve the pain caused by joint degeneration because of osteoarthritis that has not yet progressed to all three compartments of the knee.
Following the personalized pre-operative plan, the surgeon guides the robotic-arm during bone preparation to execute the pre-determined surgical plan and to position the implant. By selectively targeting only the part of the knee damaged by osteoarthritis, surgeons can resurface the diseased portion of the knee while helping to spare the healthy bone and ligaments surrounding the knee joint.

Heat-free, Waterjet Therapy for BPH Available
Northwest Health is offering a heat-free waterjet therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as prostate gland enlargement. This minimally-invasive surgical treatment combines the power of water and robotic technology to provide BPH relief, and surgeons are able to customize this therapy to a person's specific and unique anatomy.
Performed in a hospital setting while the patient is under anesthesia, the treatment usually takes less than an hour. However, it does involve an overnight stay.
During the resective procedure, the prostate tissue that causes symptoms of BPH is surgically removed. No incisions are made as the prostate is reached through the urethra. This therapy is the only kind that uses ultrasound imaging with the standard camera, a cytoscope, allowing surgeons to see the entire prostate in real time so they may map what should be removed and also note what to avoid.
Once surgeons have created the surgical map, a robotically-controlled, heat-free waterjet removes the prostate tissue outlined in the map. This robotic technology minimizes human error in removing prostate tissue and ensures tissue is removed precisely, consistently and predictably. When required, surgeons may choose to use a minimal amount of cautery following therapy.
