JOHNSON, Ark. (Oct. 9, 2023) – Northwest Health will host a global Wave of Light event to raise awareness for pregnancy and infant loss at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 at Northwest Medical Center – Willow Creek Women’s Hospital (WCWH), 4301 Greathouse Springs Road, Johnson, AR 72741.
The community is invited to join the hospital team at the WCWH campus and light a candle in quiet reflection at 7 p.m. Candles will be provided by the hospital and will be kept lit for one hour. As guests blow out their candles, the next time zone will light their candles. The Wave of Light starts at the International Date Line on Christmas Island at 7 p.m. and goes around the globe with candles, buildings, landmarks and monuments illuminated. This creates a continuous chain of light that spans and illuminates the globe for a 24-hour period.
“The loss of a pregnancy or the death of a baby is a painful event that affects thousands of families across the globe every year,” said WCWH Chief Executive Officer Juli McWhorter. “Although we will be gathering on the Willow Creek campus, this is for any family in our community that lost a pregnancy or a baby and would like to join us.”
The Wave of Light event highlights the importance for families to get the bereavement support and care they need, for as long as they need it. It also is an opportunity to spark conversations about loss and give local bereaved parents and families an opportunity to talk about their babies.
“As healthcare providers, it’s important for us to be part of this event every year to show our support to the families that are on this difficult journey,” said WCWH Executive Director of Nursing Stacy Henson.
