Marie Dee Honored for 50 Years of Service
8/28/2020
A festive celebration was held on Friday, August 28, in honor of Marie Dee for 50 years of service with Northwest Medical Center-Springdale. A Springdale native, Marie started work at what was then Springdale Memorial Hospital in 1970... on a dare.
"I told my high school friends I couldn't get near a hospital or I would pass out. They dared then double-dared me so I put in an application my senior year at Springdale High, and I got a call back."
Marie went to work part-time while finishing high school, and she's never turned back.
Now a laboratory tech/phlebotomist at Northwest Medical Plaza - Springdale at 4077 Elm Springs Road, Marie began her work with Northwest Health as a nurse aid on the "800 unit" of the hospital with older patients and "saw a little bit of everything" before nursing units became more specialized. She then worked in the obstetrics unit and nursery for 14 years, moving to the laboratory in 1989. She also worked as an imaging department transporter, in the emergency department, and for the senior care providers before moving to her current position.
"The hospital has been so good to me, and supported me. My supervisors have always understood and encouraged me. I've worked with so many different people and everyone has played a major role in getting me through life. I've made such wonderful friends over the years. I can't imagine going anywhere else. I love all my patients and look forward to seeing them."
Marie is calling this "50 and counting" as she has no plans to retire.
