NMC-S Presents Springdale Fire Department with First "Living the Mission" Award

SPRINDALE, Ark. (March 1, 2024) – Northwest Medical Center – Springdale (NMC-S) recognized the Springdale Fire Department on Monday, February 26, during a special reception for their efforts of going above and beyond to put patients first. NMC-S leadership presented the fire department with a Northwest Medical Center – Springdale Living the Mission award, the first of its kind.
“It is in the daily things we do that we say, ‘It is just our job,’ that ultimately makes the biggest impacts,” said Rick Naegler, NMC-S's chief executive officer.
These words exemplified the care and dedication Springdale Fire Department provided on a cold and snowy night when the NMC-S team attempted to get transport for a patient to the next level of appropriate care. However, the inclement weather made getting any transport difficult.
“As caregivers, we know that helpless feeling where you can’t get the care the patient needs to them,” Naegler said.
That’s when the Springdale Fire Department stepped in.
“They said we’re going to take this patient, get on the rig on our day off and transport them,” Naegler said.
And that transport went to an out-of-state facility in hazardous weather.
“They were putting the patient first and we needed to recognize the Springdale Fire Department for their efforts,” Naegler said. “Northwest Medical Center – Springdale is honored to present this Living the Mission Award to the Springdale Fire Department for service above and beyond the call of duty,” Naegler said. “Your commitment in difficult circumstances enabled us to fulfill our mission to care for our community. We offer special thanks to Preston Murphy and Joshua Carpenter.”
NMC-S Chief Nursing Officer Shelly Cordum echoed Naegler’s remarks to the fire department thanking them for doing what they do each and every day.
“At our hospital we lead from a point of mission and that everything we do is bigger than us,” Naegler said. “Thank you, Springdale Fire Department, for what you do and living that mission. While this is the first award we’ve given out, I’m sure there are more to come in the future. Thank you.”
